The Penn State football player who needed money

June 5, 2006

The idea that Ku Klux Klansmen are lurking everywhere, and racist white people roam around killing black people and leaving racial epithets written in blood over their body, is schlock Hollywood fantasy. Shit like that isn't really happening anywhere on Planet Earth. Not in the last half century anyway. Too bad the professional victim mongers don't understand that.

Or maybe they do, but the truth isn't as profitable as the scary fantasy about white boogeymen.

When the body of Penn State student Langston Carraway was found with 93 stab wounds and the word "NIGGER" scrawled in his blood on a nearby wall, the usual crowd trumpeted the usual hysterical nonsense about racist hate crimes. Marc Lamont Hill, who you may have seen on Fox News debating Ann Coulter, complained about the crime not being national news and then mentioned the "very active Ku Klux Klan, as well as other terroristic hate groups" at Penn State.

Uh huh. "Terroristic."

Since Penn State was pretty much built in the middle of a cow pasture out in the boondocks, you have to wonder how "active" the local KKK could possibly be. I'm visualizing two middle-aged fat guys having a meeting in the garage attached to Mom's doublewide, sharing a six pack of Stroh's beer, arguing about whose turn it is to buy the pizza, watching a VHS tape replay of the 2001 Daytona 500, and discussing the girl neither of them had the guts to ask out in high school.

Anyway, you can probably guess how this turns out, since the website is called, not On January 16, 2007, seven months after Langston was killed, his BLACK best friend, LaVon Chisley, who is a BLACK man in case you didn't see it the first time, was arrested for the murder.

LaVon was a former Penn State football player who started his college career in 2002 with such a bang that he assumed a future big-money NFL career was inevitable, and borrowed lots of money in anticipation thereof.

Didn't happen. LaVon was not only less talented than he thought, he was also dumber than a rock, so by 2005 he was off the team for academic reasons and the NFL showed an understandable lack of interest.

Looking at a mountain of debt and no way to pay it off, LaVon apparently decided to kill his best friend, who had lots of cash in his pocket because he sold drugs. Handy, right? "I need money, he's got money, and I can blame the murder on white people," is what LaVon wrote in his Brilliant Criminal Plans notebook.

Didn't work. Turns out there was LaVon DNA in the bloody rubber glove discarded at the murder scene. Hey, give LaVon some credit: at least he spelled the racial epithet correctly. Most of these bogus hate crime perpetrators are too stupid to spell.

Maybe he learned to spell that word from listening to RAP music.

On September 28, 2007, LaVon Chisley was found guilty of murder and immediately sentenced to life in prison.
